> A campus pantry has the same operational needs as a small store — inventory, a register, receiving, reporting — but none of the budget or staffing. Pantry gives it a proper backend and a dignified, self-serve front door.
> Students check themselves out at a branded touchscreen kiosk: sign in by Student ID, email, or card swipe (each toggleable), scan barcodes with a standard wedge scanner, or tap Common Items tiles for produce and unlabeled goods. Optional per-visit limits, receipt printing, and idle timeout keep it running unattended, and it's fully usable by touch, mouse, or keyboard. Staff launch the kiosk and it stays locked there until a staff password exits. The same cart engine runs as a staff Register for anything that needs a hand.
> Behind the counter: full item management with zero-dependency barcode generation and label printing, receiving from suppliers and donors, waste and correction adjustments, and a low-stock dashboard against per-item reorder points. Every transaction is logged and voidable with stock restored — never deleted. Student records keep visit history and hashed card assignments; raw card values are never stored.
> Students can pre-order online with the same no-password sign-in, and staff work a Placed → Being Filled → Ready → Picked Up queue. A no-login public "What We Carry" catalog shows what's available without ever exposing stock counts. And because grant reporting is the difference between a pantry surviving or not, reports on distribution, top items, inventory status, and student usage all export to CSV — whether you price items or run everything at $0.00.
